design*sponge: sketch mornings
Jul. 13th, 2009 | 11:04 am
i am excited to once again be blog-hanging out with my friend grace over at design*sponge (previously ao’s and my apartment had the honor of appearing as a d*s sneak peek). this week however, i am guest sketchblogging. the pieces are a collection of coffeeshop drawings from around the neighborhood, so lots of muffins and coffee from some of my favorite hangouts. eat and drink up.

reverse-pigeon®
Jul. 6th, 2009 | 09:00 am
a conversation about bike commuting and being cut off by a car that had crossed four lanes of traffic without signaling (or likely even looking) led to the discussion of the choicest means of reprisal to said car. so with the beginning of the tour de france and the founding of america, i take great pleasure in introducing, the reverse-pigeon®.

slate: the food issue
Jun. 2nd, 2009 | 02:58 pm
slate is running a special series this week examining food and food culture, for which i got to prepare some tasty illustrations. i am a little sad that they didn’t use an illustration for the article about lard, but really, it’s probably for the best.
eat up, people.

kent street
May. 20th, 2009 | 02:13 pm
lunchtime drawing and question, why are there so many ford explorers parked on kent street? (note: drawing only shows two, but there were at least two others in close proximity that didn’t get drawn.)

i love the look of commercial coffee pots, even if the coffee in them is often times lacking.

royal baking powder
May. 13th, 2009 | 05:52 pm
i stopped by casey rubber stamps today and picked up a new stamp. if you haven’t been, casey is an entertaining fellow, full of knowledge, and of course…stamps. it’s one of my favorite new york stores. anyway, here is a sketchbook page with my new royal baking powder stamp.

draw fewer white people
May. 12th, 2009 | 02:35 pm
i find that when drawing people, i tend to default to white males, age 25-45. while i have absolutely no idea how this could happen, it’s sometimes useful to acknowledge said ticks, crutches and habits with a note, or electrical shock. in this case, i am hoping that a note will be a sufficient reminder.

junk-spam
May. 5th, 2009 | 05:19 pm
i was mucking about today with some ideas for new textures. slap some hand lettering underneath, and…
and… and…
well, its an idea. we’ll see where this goes. on a semi-related note, anyone notice how all this social networking (i’m looking at you, twitter) has caused an uptick in spam? oh well, off to trade in my old unwanted gold jewelry for cash.
